Spurger ISD cancels school due to flu

Close to 20 students and faculty members around Spurger ISD have been diagnosed with the flu, or exhibiting flu like symptoms.

Superintendent Kendall Smith thought it was best to cancel classes Friday.

"If we separate them and those that have it, keep the contaminated ones away from each other... we hope with that the flu will die out," Smith said.

The district disinfected the campus Friday morning, shutting down all school-related activities.

"School is doing great it's just a bad situation it's not a decision we made lightly but we did what we thought was the best decision at the time for our community."

The district plans to have classes back in session Monday.
