TAMPA, Fla. (WSET) -- A puppy found with his mouth taped shut is getting a new beginning.

The Lee County Sheriff's Office posted an update to Chance the dog who was found in February with electrical tape around his mouth, roaming around backyards.

Chance was recently deputized and is recovering nicely, the sheriff's office said.

He's now eager to get his paws dirty and has already gotten in on some of the action with his new owners.

His first assignment was a ribbon cutting ceremony at a new roller skating rink in Fort Myers, Florida and then a teen driving challenge event, where he watched young drivers maneuver around obstacle courses.

"When asked to describe his first day on duty, Deputy Chance stated, 'ruff,'" the sheriff's office wrote on Facebook.

The reward for information to find who taped Chance's mouth shut still sits at $14,500.

You can keep up with Chance and his upcoming assignments on the sheriff's office Facebook page.
