Man sentenced for attacking, stabbing Port Arthur police officer
A Woodville man is headed to prison tonight after a judge sentenced him for stabbing a police officer.
Judge Raquel West sentenced Joal Riley to the maximum of 7 years for aggravated assault, based on a plea agreement.
In December 2016, Riley stabbed Port Arthur police officer Jerry Daws several times inside his apartment.
Riley was in a relationship with Kelly Daws , the estranged wife of Officer Daws.
Prosecutors say she asked her boyfriend about getting rid of her husband because of the stress of their impending divorce.
Port Arthur police arrested both Riley and Kelly Daws.
In addition to serving time in state prison, Riley must pay $13,000 in restitution.
Kelly Daws is set for trial in July on charges of criminal solicitation and conspiracy..
