The Vidor Police Department introduced its newest member to the force - a 2-year-old Belgium Malinois whose name will be selected through a contest.

Vidor PD's "K9 Officer" is being trained for narcotics, tracking and handler protection, Chief Rod Carroll said in a news release.

The dog starts patrol in February.

Carroll said the K9 is another tool used to better protect the community.
