Gators finding homes in southeast Texas

Fishing rods aren't only used to catch fish this time of year. Catching alligators is common.

"In the last three days, we've had 17 nuisance alligator calls," said Gary Saurage, owner of Gator Country in Fannett.

Alligators have been spotted throughout southeast Texas in backyards, ponds, and parking lots.

"We're getting into the start of mating season so your smaller alligators are trying to get out of the way and find places to go and be by themselves," Saurage said.

Gators are attracted to warm weather and summer is around the corner.

Saurage and his team rescue gators across southeast Texas. However, he reminds folks not to take matters into their own hands.

"Don't try to harass the alligator. You put your hands on that alligator, he's gonna bite you. Don't do that," Saurage said.

If a gator comes onto your property, call Texas Parks & Wildlife at (281) 842-8100.
