Former police chief begins new journey after 17-year stint
Darrell Bush, former Nederland Police Chief retires after 44-years of public service.
Bush started with the Nederland Police Department in 1974. He was appointed chief in 2001, providing his services throughout the city.
"I had a childhood dream of being a police officer and as I got older everybody told me oh you'll outgrow that," Bush said. "I've always enjoyed it I've always went into it hoping to be able to help people and help the community."
Chief Gary Porter is the new police chief. Porter was a longtime assistant in the department. He was sworn in Thursday at the Nederland Municipal Courtroom.
