FBI clears scene after controlled detonation in south Beaumont
The FBI executed a search warrant near College Street and Dixie in Beaumont, leading to closure of three intersections and a controlled detonation in that area.
An FBI spokeswoman tells KFDM/Fox 4 that the agency was "conducting a lawful FBI operation at that location," adding that it is a sealed search warrant.
The intersections closed at Dixie are College, Belmont and Sunnyside. Federal investigators have since cleared the scene.
On Thursday afternoon, the FBI said there would be a controlled detonation in that area, but that citizens should not be alarmed.
The FBI Beaumont office is advising residents that a controlled detonation in the area of Dixie Dr. and Belmont St. in Beaumont, Texas should occur within the hour as part of an ongoing law enforcement operation. Residents should not be alarmed.
Please avoid the area of Dixie Dr. and Belmont St.; College St. and Dixie Dr.; and Sunnyside Dr. and Belmont St.
The FBI, in partnership with the Beaumont Police Department and the Beaumont Fire Department, is working to mitigate any potential hazards to nearby residents.
