Hunger Initiative which helps keep hungry fed, in need of help themselves

The Hardin Jefferson Hunger Initiative in China Texas has been helping families at or below the poverty line with keeping their pantry stocked for years, but now, it's in need of help.

"It does get difficult, especially when the money in the bank starts to dwindle down," says John Walker, founder of the Initiative. "You start adding up in you head, oh we need this amount."

The food pantry in China aids families whose income meets 138 percent of the federal poverty guidelines. When Walker started the initiative, he found 30 percent of the 1200 China residents fell in that category.

"It just kind of weighed on me, and I said, 'We need to do something about this,'" says Walker.
