A former chief of the Crystal Beach Volunteer Fire Department has pled guilty to stealing from his department.

David Loop, 61, admits to stealing more than $70,000 from the department during a four year period from March 2009 to October 2013.

In 2014, a Galveston County grand jury indicted Loop on charges of misapplication of fiduciary property and theft of property less than $200,000.

Loop pled guilty Wednesday in Galveston County court to the theft of property charge. A judge is scheduled to sentence Loop June 3.

According to investigators, Loop was accused of using the department credit card to spend more than $25,000 at a racetrack and casino in Louisiana and misappropriated more than $45,000.

Loop was voted out of his post in January 2014.

Chris Mullooly investigates and has reaction to the plea on Fox 4 News at 9 and KFDM News at 10.
