Groves man, 52, dies after motorcycle crash in Kirbyville

A 52-year-old Groves man was killed and his passenger was critically injured in a motorcycle crash over the weekend.

According to Kirbyville Police Chief Paul Brister, 52-year-old Jefferson Edwin West was driving the motorcycle northbound on Highway 96 at FM 363, on the north side of Kirbyville.

The driver of a passenger car traveling south tried to turn east onto FM 363. The motorcycle crashed into the passenger side of the car.

It happened Saturday shortly after 6 p.m.

Brister said the passenger on the motorcycle, Denise Lindsey, also of Groves, was flown by a medical helicopter to a Beaumont hospital with critical injuries, where she was at last word reported to be still undergoing treatment.

The occupants of the car are from Newton County. They were all taken to a hospital where they underwent treatment for their injuries.

West was pronounced dead at the scene by Jasper County Precinct 3 Justice of the Peace Mike Smith.
