Affidavit: Port Arthur murder suspect says he used AK 47 pistol in deadly shooting

UPDATE: The 20-year-old Port Arthur man accused of a murder used an AK 47 pistol to shoot the victim several times in the chest earlier this week, according to an affidavit for his arrest warrant.

KFDM/FOX4 has obtained an affidavit which states Diante Malik Burrell, 20, admitted to shooting Javonte Jack in the chest on Nov. 7.

Burrell has claimed self-defense.

PAPD responded that evening to the 4100 block of FM 365 in reference to a shooting around 7:35 p.m.

They found Jack had been shot several times in the chest. He was taken to St. Elizabeth hospital in Beaumont, where he died as a result of the gunshot wounds.

A witness told police that after hearing gunshots two men, both carrying guns, entered a white Camaro and drove away from the scene.

Around 9 a.m. the next morning, Port Arthur's detectives received information that the suspects were in the 4100 block of 4th Street, where Burrell was located chased toward the seawall.

He was taken to the police station, where he admitted to shooting a 7.62 round into Jack's chest.

PREVIOUS: KFDM/FOX4 has learned a judge set a $1 million bond Thursday morning for Diante Malik Burrell, 20, charged with murder in the shooting death of Javonte Deshon Jack, 20.

Jack was shot and killed Tuesday night at the Avery Trace Apartments in Port Arthur.

Burrell is claiming self defense. Police arrested him Wednesday afternoon in Port Arthur. They're searching for a weapon they believe he threw into the Intracoastal Waterway while they were chasing him. So far, divers haven't found it.

A judge arraigned Burrell and set bond Thursday morning in jail.

In addition to the murder charge, there is a mental health hold on Burrell.
