George P. Bush visits Homeowner Assistance Program Office
The Homeowners Assistance Program is a program available for any Southeast Texan still working to rebuild.
Land Commissioner George P. Bush visited the Jasper HAP Office on Thursday, to encourage more people to apply for the program.
“The HAP program will be the biggest portion of what we will manage to help Texans get back on their feet. It's the largest single-family recovery rebuild program of its kind in state history. We've seen larger numbers in other parts of the state and that's part of the reason why we're here. We want to remind folks that the recovery programs are still available,” said Commissioner Bush.
Right now, almost 1,000 citizens have applied in Jefferson County; but only 78 have done the paperwork in Jasper County.
Jasper County Judge Mark Allen, one of the elected officials who attended the event, supports this program whole heartedly: “It's a great effort, and when people do leave [this office], they will know somebody does care and they're really working to make their families whole and repair their homes; and get them where they need to be so they can continue to raise their family.”
At this office, citizens can expect a one-on-one visit with a counselor who will walk them through the entire application process.
