VIDEO: Three Southeast Texas families lose homes in fire linked to Harvey

Bolivar fire

Three families in Southeast Texas lost their homes to a devastating wind-whipped fire - which burned for hours - linked to Hurricane Harvey, now downgraded to a tropical storm.

First responders on the Bolivar Peninsula tell us lightning from an outer band of the hurricane struck a home on Crystal Beach, on the Bolivar Peninsula of Texas, and the fire spread to two other homes.

No one was hurt.

Firefighters from several volunteer fire departments were hampered by gusty winds blowing at about 35 mph. That spread the fire from the original home struck by lightning to two other homes next door.

The firefighters managed to protect several homes nearby by spraying water on them for hours. The fires were finally out by about 3 a.m.

But this morning, a KFDM crew embers still burning from the fire.

The Gavleston Ferry had stopped running because of high seas and that prevented island firefighters from helping out.
