Suspect accused of shooting and killing his father

Zachary Mosely

The Vernon Parish Sheriff’s Department says that the suspect in a Monday night murder in the New Llano Community was captured late Tuesday morning near an elementary school in DeRidder. Meanwhile, new details about the case have now been released.

According to Sheriff Sam Craft, 30-year-old Zachary Mosely is accused of shooting and killing his own father, 56-year-old Andrew Mosely, Jr. The sheriff said witnesses to the crime immediately identified the son as the suspect.

Craft said investigators received information that the suspect was inside a home on North Texas Street in DeRidder, which was close to Pinewood Elementary School.

DeRidder Police said that they contacted the school to have it placed on lockdown as a precaution, and then DeRidder officers and Vernon Parish deputies entered the nearby house and arrested Mosely without incident.

Mosley was taken to the Beauregard Parish Jail where he was charged with one count of 2nd degree murder, and his bond was set at $2,000,000.00 by 30th Judicial District Court Judge C. Anthony Eaves.

Mosley will later be extradited to the Vernon Parish Jail.
