BPD arrests man after 5 hour SWAT standoff
Beaumont Police have arrested a man accused of choking his girlfriend after the SWAT team was able to enter a home and the woman, two children and a baby escaped.
Police responded to a domestic disturbance call at about 7 p.m. Tuesday at a home in the 2400 block of Bolivar. A 42-year-old female called to report her boyfriend had assaulted her. Dispatchers could hear a disturbance while the man took the phone from the woman.
Officers arrived on scene and the female victim as well as two older children and a baby they were babysitting got out. The boyfriend, William Jones, 39, of Beaumont, barricaded himself in the house and refused to come out. Jones had a felony warrant for Evading and a Parole Violation warrant. The Beaumont Police SWAT team, hostage negotiators and K-9 responded to the residence.
He refused to come out so SWAT burst inside the room and entered with a K-9 shortly after midnight and arrested Jones.
He is charged with Family Violence Assault Strangulation, Interference with 911 call, Jefferson County warrant for Evading and a Parole Violation warrant for two counts of burglary.
