Silsbee, Little Cypress-Mauriceville boys' basketball teams reprimanded for fight

The State Executive Committee of the University Interscholastic League issued a public reprimand to students from Silsbee and Little Cypress-Mauriceville high school basketball programs for fighting Feb. 7, placing both programs on a two-year probation period, the UIL announced Wednesday.

The committee met Wednesday to hand down decisions on eligibility of student-athletes and issue penalties for UIL rule violations.

Silsbee sophomore Devon McCain was suspended for the remainder of the season as a result of the fight, while other players from both teams were also suspended for a game for their roles in the incident.

The UIL District 22-4A executive committee decided the following the week to forfeit the game for both teams.

Silsbee went on to win the Class 4A state championship in San Antonio.
