UPDATE: Port Arthur woman killed in crash on West Port Arthur Road

One person is dead after a crash Monday afternoon at West Port Arthur Road in Jefferson County, according to a statement released by the Texas Department of Public Safety.

DPS received a report of a collision near South Garden Road at about 1 p.m., the statement says.

Initial reports indicated that a 2001 Toyota passenger vehicle and a 2015 Ford F-250 pickup truck collided head-on while traveling on West Port Arthur Road. But DPS officials later clarified, stating that the driver of the Toyota tried to make a left turn from South Garden onto West Port Arthur and pulled out in front of the Ford pickup truck.

The Toyota was struck in the driver-side door.

The driver of the Toyota, a 49-year-old woman from Port Arthur, was pronounced dead at the scene.

DPS officials later identified her as Martha Dianne Katan.

The driver of the Ford pickup truck, 41-year-old Riley Ladd of Louisiana, was transported by ambulance to the Medical Center of Southeast Texas with minor injuries.

All northbound and southbound traffic lanes of West Port Arthur Road, near South Garden Road, have reopened.
