Jefferson Co. constable makes history after winning award
JEFFERSON COUNTY —
A Jefferson County constable is making history after winning a major award.
Precinct 2 Constable Christopher Bates is honored as Texas Constable of the Year.
Bates is the youngest constable as well as the first constable from Jefferson County and the first African American to receive the award.
"It's mind boggling because I would have never thought in my fifth year as constable I would be receiving this award,” Bates said. “This award has my name on it but to me in my heart this is for the people not me."
