Groves man killed in Twin City Highway motorcycle crash

Mario Ruben Colunga (middle) died from his injuries after the driver of a Chevrolet pickup truck failed to yield the right of way approaching Twin City Highway from a private driveway, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

Richard Eric Bean, a 46-year-old man from Groves, is charged with intoxication manslaughter in the death of Mario Ruben Colunga, who was killed Wednesday night in a motorcycle accident on Twin City Highway.

Emily White, a 34-year-old woman from Houston, was a passenger on the motorcycle with Colunga and is in serious condition at St. Elizabeth hospital in Beaumont. Neither of them wore a helmet.

Colunga rode a 2015 Harley Davidson southbound on Twin City some time before 10:40 p.m. A 2013 Chevrolet pickup truck pulled out onto Twin City from the driveway and hit the motorcycle, according to DPS.

Law enforcement officials arrested the pickup truck driver, who they say is a 46-year-old man from Groves, on suspicion he drove under the influence. He is charged with intoxication manslaughter.
