Gators finding homes in SE Texas

Fishing rods aren't only used to catch fish this time of year. Catching alligators is common.

"In the last three days we've had 17 nuisance alligator calls," said Gary Saurage, owner of Gator Country in Fannett.

Alligators have been spotted throughout SE Texas backyards, ponds, and parking lots.

"We're getting into the start of mating season so your smaller alligators are trying to get out of the way and find places to go and be by themselves," Saurage said.

With summer around the corner, gators are attracted to the warm weather.

Saurage and his team rescue gators across SE Texas. However, he reminds folks not to take matters into their own hands.

"Don't try to harass the alligator. You put your hands on that Alligator, he's gonna bite you. Don't do that," Saurage said.

If a gator comes onto your property, call Texas Parks & Wildlife at (281) 842-8100.
