Former Port Arthur city employee gets five years' probation for stealing metal

Joseph Soliz

A jury on Thursday found a former Port Arthur city employee guilty of multiple theft charges after he stole more than 16,000 pounds of metal from the city.

Joseph Soliz was a supervisor in the water distribution department prior the theft allegations.

According to a probable cause affidavit, Soliz took scrap metal from job sites and sold it to Beaumont Iron and Metal.

He was sentenced to a probated 2-year prison stint for five years, meaning he will serve no jail time if he successfully completes probation.

If not, Soliz will go to prison for two years.
