The Texas Department of Public Safety apologized for mistakenly reporting a death in a car crash early Monday morning.

DPS says it is "addressing this situation internally."

A 19-year-old Beaumont man was initially declared dead by DPS, but later said to be resuscitated by emergency medical personnel.

DPS responded to a single car crash on Highway 105 near Reines Road in Bevil Oaks around 5 a.m.

The driver of a 2006 Chevrolet pickup truck had been traveling west on 105 when he veered across the eastbound land and off the road, according to DPS.

He was unresponsive at the scene, where officers conducted CPR. The resuscitation efforts continued until medical personnel arrived and at the St. Elizabeth hospital in Beaumont.
