'Baby Faith' adopted, recovering better than expected

Submitted photo: Baby Faith's adoptive family has requested it not be identified, nor the city and state in which they live.

"Baby Faith" Mason has found her forever family after her adoption was consummated last week, a Child Protective Services spokeswoman tells KFDM/6 News.

Baby Faith was the subject of what some local prosecutors and advocates called the worst child abuse case they've seen with a surviving victim.

Her biological father, Darrell Mason, was sentenced to 25 years in prison last year for child abuse. Her biological mother, Christine Johnson, was sentenced in August 2015 to 65 years in prison for her role in the abuse.

A doctor who evaluated Faith in 2013 at the Texas Children's Hospital in Houston, testified at Johnson's trial that the majority of the newborn's 40 known fractures were about three weeks old at the time of her examination.

Baby Faith's adoptive family has requested it not be identified, nor the city and state in which they live.

But the girl is now 3 ½ years old and recovering from her injuries more than anyone could have imagined when the abuse was first discovered, CPS spokeswoman Shari Pulliam said.

She is now the youngest of four siblings - two brothers and one sister.

"The family couldn't be happier with how she's progressing," Pulliam said.
