Eleven-year-old Nederland girl giving back to Haiti in a big way
Mackenzie Howell is getting ready for her second trip to Haiti and she's doing much more than just sight-seeing.
The 11-year-old holds the country near and dear to her heart.
"I felt like God was asking me to help the people in Haiti," said Mackenzie.
She has raised more than $100,000 since she first started helping the people there following a devastating 2010 earthquake.
It started when she was five-years-old, and watching a television program about the tragic 2010 earthquake that killed thousands of people, and damaged and destroyed thousands of homes.
Six News on Fox and KFDM's Simone Braithwaite spoke with Mackenzie about the projects and money raised to help a country still affected by the earthquake.
